Securing Routers with Captcha Technology

D-Link Systems has announced that it will incorporate DNS security extensions (DNSSEC) to routers in order to defend home computers against malicious web attack. This technology will be integrated with D-Link’s already implemented CAPTCHA technology and updated IPv6 certification in order to provide increased security.

The extra layer of security provided by DNSSEC is expected to strengthen internet security by virtually stamping web pages for authenticity. This digital stamping method will make it more difficult for spoofer attacks to take place, limiting the consumer’s exposure to malware through sites that may look legitimate. IPv6 certification in addition to these functions brings additional security measures into play—IPSec, for example—that authenticates and encrypts data in a more sophisticated method than IPv4.

Some of the added protections D-Link hopes to provide consumers with this integrated system are man-in-the-middle, cache poisoning, and other attacks generally referred to as web hacking and fishing.
